Suffering is rarely the end of the story.
Often, it's a new beginning-
the moment when the breaking point

Meet Rodger

For more than 25 years as a counselor, pastor, and hospital chaplain, I’ve walked side by side with people in the grip of some of life’s most difficult moments.

In those moments, I’ve witnessed something miraculous and deeply beautiful: the human capacity to rise, heal, and begin again.

Here’s what I know: strong people are not the ones who never struggle. They’re the ones who refuse to disappear inside the struggle.

Many of us were taught to carry pain alone, to suck it up and avoid burdening others. This can be the reason our pain grows so heavy in the first place.

Together, we can lift that weight, untangle what has been knotted underneath, and create a path forward, one that aligns with your heart, your life goals, and the story God is still writing in you.

Pr. Rodger McFarland and his wife Terri have been married for over 30 years, have six children, 9 grandchidlren, and two very spoiled dogs, Bailey and Beanie. They make their home in Plant City, Florida - the Strawberry Capital of the World.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pastoral counseling is centered on a deeply personal and holistic type of care. It's focus is not only on the inner workings of the mind, but also on the condition of the heart and the spirit. Behind many of the struggles we face in life are wounds that have fragmented the mind, broken the heart, and depressed the spirit.

With years of experience helping people navigate deep emotional wounds and difficult seasons of life, I bring an understanding of how the mind, heart, spirit, and nervous system can begin to heal. The tools I use are grounded in compassion and informed by proven approaches, offering practical support and meaningful direction rather than surface-level encouragement alone.

I'm neither a psychologist or psychiatrist, and pastoral counseling is never meant to be seen through the lens of a medical treatment relationship. My role is not to diagnose, prescribe medication, or approach you as a set of symptoms to be managed.

Instead, I seek to listen deeply, discern carefully, and help you uncover what may be weighing you down and holding you back. Together, we will work toward a path of healing that is thoughtful, personal, and shaped to your specific situation.

Psychologists, psychiatrists, and clinical therapists are licensed by their state’s Health Department and governing medical boards.
Pastoral counselors are credentialed, ordained, or commissioned through a church or ministerial organization.

No religion required.

I work with people from many backgrounds, including those who are Christian, unsure of what they believe, or not religious at all.

Counseling is not about religious pressure or expecting you to believe a certain way. Some people want faith to be part of the process, and others do not.

If faith is important to you, we can draw from the comfort, wisdom, strength, and healing grace it brings.

If faith is not something you want to bring into the process, that is completely okay. Our time will remain centered on your goals, your story, and the areas where you most want support.

Our suggested session fees range from $65 to $165, determined by a sliding donation scale tied to gross annual family income. To see where you land on the scale, or to explore financial assistance options, please visit our Fees & Financial Options page

At this time, we do not accept insurance.

This helps me provide care in a way that is more personal, flexible, and centered on you rather than on the policies and limitations of an insurance company.

If cost is a concern, feel free to ask about our sliding-scale options, scholarships, and other financial options and availability.

Many counseling practitioners work within a standard 50-minute session. My approach is a little different.

Most sessions are scheduled for 60 minutes, with up to 30 minutes of added flexibility when needed. This helps create enough room for the process to unfold naturally without feeling rushed, especially when something important, tender, or emotionally complex is being shared.

This can be especially helpful in couples work, where it often takes time for both people to feel settled, heard, and ready to move into deeper parts of the heart. The added time is available when it serves the session, but it is never meant to feel forced.

If you need to keep your session within a specific time frame on a particular day, just let me know when you arrive, and we will work within that window.

The easiest and preferred way to get started is by scheduling a free 20-minute introductory conversation. It gives us a simple, no-pressure chance to connect, hear a little about what you are looking for, and see whether this feels like a good fit.
