Trauma & Healing

"Trauma is not just an event that took place sometime in the past; it is also the imprint left by that experience on mind, brain, and body."

— Bessel van der Kolk

Trauma & Healing work is a space where your story is allowed to be as big, messy, and complex as it really is, without anyone telling you to “just get over it.” Past wounds don’t simply fade with time; they tend to show up in our bodies, our reactions, our relationships, and the way we see ourselves and the world. Whether your pain comes from a single event, years of chaos or neglect, spiritual or relational harm, or experiences you struggle to name, you don’t have to keep carrying it alone.

In our work together, we’ll move at a pace that feels safe. We’ll pay attention not only to your thoughts and memories, but also to how your body and nervous system have learned to survive, through anxiety, shutdown, hypervigilance, people-pleasing, anger, numbness, or feeling constantly on edge. Instead of re-traumatizing you by forcing details, we’ll gently build enough safety and stability for your system to begin releasing what it’s been holding for far too long.

Trauma-focused care can help you:

  • Understand how trauma affects your brain, body, and emotions
  • Reduce symptoms like intrusive thoughts, nightmares, panic, and emotional flooding
  • Break free from shame, self-blame, and survival patterns that no longer serve you
  • Learn practical tools to calm your nervous system and feel more grounded
  • Rebuild trust—in yourself, in relationships, and, if it matters to you, in your faith

Healing from trauma doesn’t mean pretending it never happened. It means slowly reclaiming your life, your voice, and your sense of self so the past no longer gets to write every chapter of your future. If you feel stuck in old patterns, easily triggered, or exhausted from holding it all together, trauma counseling can offer a compassionate, evidence-informed path toward safety, peace, and freedom.
